David H. Kaplan

David is a business attorney applying creative, practical thinking to his clients’ legal challenges. Representing early stage technology companies, David brings a strong business-sense and deep tax expertise, which he has developed over nearly 20 years of practice.

David joined New Counsel, PLC in 2022. His practice is focused on financing and investment, mergers and acquisitions, tax matters, and general corporate matters.

Prior to joining New Counsel, PLC, David was a transactional tax partner with Sullivan & Worcester, LLP, a global, Boston-based law firm. He was known for his success in developing and implementing practical solutions to tax and regulatory requirements that avoided disruption of business processes and minimized tax friction. David represented companies developing and supporting the backbone of the internet, including data centers, fiber networks, and telecommunications infrastructure. His clients ranged from venture-backed startups to Fortune 500 companies.

David studied politics, philosophy & economics (PPE) at Claremont McKenna College, graduating with honors in 2000. He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Michigan Law School in 2003.
